Battery storage for agriculture

Milking systems, cooling, drying and irrigation create expensive load peaks — and still must never stand still. A correctly sized battery solves both.

Why farms benefit most from storage

A farm has a distinctive load profile: a high base load for cooling and ventilation, plus short, extreme peaks when powerful machines run in parallel. Those few peak hours drive the demand charge on metered tariffs — while animal welfare and harvest quality depend on an uninterrupted power supply.

Three effects, one system

  1. Cap load peaks

    The battery steps in automatically when several loads start at once. The grid demand peak drops — and with it the demand charge that a few hours per year would otherwise define.

  2. Backup power for critical systems

    If the grid fails, the battery takes over the critical loads — on the OmniCube, according to the manufacturer's datasheet, with a switchover time below 20 milliseconds.

  3. Maximise self-consumption

    Surplus PV power from barn or hall roofs is stored instead of exported cheaply — replacing expensive grid power exactly when it is needed.

The right technology

Depending on the load profile we deploy anything from residential batteries to industrial storage. The workhorse for larger farms is the OmniCube A215 (values per manufacturer datasheet):

  • 215 kWh capacity, 100 kW output
  • Backup switchover < 20 ms (with STS)
  • Operates from −30 °C to +55 °C, IP55
  • 2-hour fire-resistant enclosure, aerosol suppression system
  • Expandable by paralleling up to 10 units
